GFI Backup - Home Edition is an all-in-one backup suite. The main window has four main categories for you to choose. Those allow you to create new backup tasks, manage previously created tasks, restore files from a backup task or synchronize files between two computers.
The main feature (backing up files and folders) works amazingly well. The application launches a wizard that guides you through the process. The first thing that you have to do, obviously, is to set a source for the backup, i.e. the files that you want to back up. That is as easy as checking a folder or file in a browser window. Then you choose where it goes. Backups can be compressed and encrypted. The compression is done with Zip and encryption can be a zip password-protected file or AES encryption. GFI Backup also offers a scheduler for regular backups or timed tasks. You can even set it to start when Windows starts up.
Restoring from backup files is also quite easy, and it follows the same procedure. Both backing up and restoring were OK in terms of speed. Remember that if you compress your backup, it will take longer.
As an extra, GFI Backup allows you to sync files between two computers. The wizard looks the same, and you get to specify a first location and a second location. The application will make sure that files remain the same in both locations and it will move files as necessary. It can also be scheduled.
